The striking Chouchin 1 Reverse Suspension Lamp was created by Ionna Vautrin for the world-famous Italian design company Foscarini.
Foscarini has been designing beautiful yet functional lighting solutions for four decades. They have won numerous awards such as the Compasso d'Oro, and have diversified into publishing with design magazines Lux and Inventario. The desinger of the Chouchin 1 Reverse Suspension Lamp, Ionna Vautrin, was born in Paris and has collaborated with many notable design institutions. She has stated that her work is somewhere between industry and poetry, and that she aims for her items to be cheerful as well as functional.
The Chouchin 1 Reverse Suspension Lamp is named after the Chouchin lamps of Japan, traditional lanterns that are made from paper and bamboo. This lamp is a traditional silhouette re-imagined in glass, which is created during a single blowing process. The shades are in a neutral white shade, and different variations have differing colours on the bottom of the lamp to add a touch of elegance. It measures height 31cm, diameter 40cm, suspension length 190cm, and the diameter of the canopy is 12cm. It weighs 4.4kg and takes one 150W halogen spot bulb.
