The delicate Akari YA2 Table Lamp was designed by Isamu Noguchi for Vitra.
Isamu Noguchi is a respected artist and designer with a Japanese-American background. Combining influences from both cultures he creates sculptures of light for the family-owned German company Vitra, who base their products on the power of great design.
Each light in the Akari range is handcrafted in a family workshop located in Gifu, Japan. The paper used in the light sculptures is traditional washi paper, a material that has been handmade from natural sources for over 1000 years in Japan. When the lamp is switched on, the light emitted is soft and warm like the sun, a feature Noguchi purposely designed for this range. The Akari YA2 Table Lamp has a steel frame, giving the paper structure and rigidity while retaining a delicate and fragile appearance. Details include tiny spherical feet and a signature of authenticity in red paint. Measuring 51cm high and 36cm wide, this light is designed to be positioned on a side table or shelf and adds an atmospheric glow to a room. Ceiling lights and floor lamps are also available in the YA2 range for a coordinated look in the home.
