The S 43 F Cantilever Armchair has been created by Mart Stam for the brand Thonet. First introduced in 1931, the S 43 Chair is an icon of modernist design. One of the first chairs to use steel tubing in a cantilever format, the chair radically reduced the use of materials, while offering a comfortable and mobile option for work or relaxation.
The S 43 F Cantilever Armchair stands 82cm high, while the seat is 56cm wide and 52cm deep, and stands 46cm above the floor. Stam fashioned the frame of the chair from a single length of stainless steel tubing, fashioning the base and back into series of elegant curves. And he chose to add separate seat, back and armrest pads, all of which are made from moulded plywood. The materials work together beautifully, combining aesthetic quality and comfort over long periods of use.
The armrests of the S 43 F Cantilever Armchair are slightly curved downwards towards the end. The base of the chair is designed to allow the product to slide smoothly, avoiding friction and floor damage. Finally, the weight is kept down to 6.8kg, making it possible to carry the S 43 chair with ease.
