The bulbous Globo Cesta Suspension Lamp was designed by Miguel Mila for the brand Santa&Cole.
A pioneer in his field, Mila began designing furniture and lamps in 1950 due to a lack of basic material and supplies in Spain at that time. Many of his pieces have been recognised as contemporary classics. Mila has received several ADI awards and was awarded the gold medal for Merit in Fine Arts in 2016. His creations seek to provide household decor and lighting solutions without compromising on convenience or aesthetics.
The Globo Cesta Suspension Lamp is a perfect example of this type of design. This luminaire is comprised of a classically shaped opal glass shade and a metal circular canopy, bringing to mind the lamps used to light beach-front houses and country estates in Spain. The electric cable is 3m, allowing the lamp to be hung at height. The lampshade measures 31cm in height and 27cm in diameter and the canopy has a diameter of 11cm. The diffuser has a diameter of 27cm. Whilst not included, this lamp uses a 10W LED bulb, but can be used with other energy-efficient light sources not greater than 75W.
