The Smatrik Bar Stool was designed by Tokujin Yoshioka for the brand Kartell.
Yoshioka is an architect and designer from Japan whose work concentrates on the role of light in the way we experience spaces. This focus is on display with Smatrik, a seating collection that Yoshioka created for Italy's Kartellbrand. Using materials cleverly, all Smatrik products allow light to pass through, making them far less intrusive when not in use. Their design ensures total comfort.
The Smatrik Bar Stool uses polycarbonate plastic to fine effect. Yoshioka has chosen to create a weave-like structure for the rounded seat. This filters light into curves and rich textures and so seems to change its appearance when seen from different angles. The stool itself measures 81cm tall, while the seat has dimensions of 43 x 43 cm and stands 65cm from the floor. It rests on a thin but extremely strong steel frame, thereby ensuring that the Smatrik Bar Stoolwill endure for years. Weighing just 6.5kg, the stool can also be easily moved and stored, making it both convenient and delightful. With its intricately woven surface, this fascinating stool will be a real conversation piece.
