The Maui Gliders were designed by Vico Magistretti for the Kartell label. Kartell was founded in the 1940s by Giulio Castelli and is a leading manufacturer of top-quality plastic furniture and lighting products. Vico Magistretti was an Italian industrial designer who studied architecture at Milan Polytechnic. In 1986 he won the Gold Medal of the Chartered Society of Industrial Artists & Designers.
These gliders were designed to be used with Magistretti's world-famous Maui stackable chairs, a range that took the world by storm. The Maui Gliders fit neatly onto the chair leg and are intended to be used on the stackable chair range to ensure that these items can be freely moved around on the floor. They are made of sturdy plastic that will not tear, crack or perish.
By fitting the gliders to the Maui chairs, you can easily move the latter around on the floor without scratching, getting stuck in grooves or damaging floor coverings. These gliders make the chairs lightweight and easy to transport in the boardroom, kitchen or waiting room. There is also no noise footprint when using the gliders as they ensure that any sound is cushioned and this makes using the chairs a pleasure.
