The Ami Ami Chair has been created by Tokujin Yoshioka for the brand Kartell. The chair's name is Japanese which translates as 'to weave' in English.
The design of the Ami Ami Chair is inspired by how patterns and textures are interwoven on a fabric. The innovative designer wanted to produce a replica of the stylistic woven icons that are seen in his native country of Japan. The design is one where squared-off lines are richly contrasted with weaving. This effect is achieved by the inner and outer surfaces undergoing an industrial process that recreates the pattern in a single mould. The chair is made of transparent or mass-coloured polycarbonate which makes it suitable for outdoor use. Its backrest is angled slightly backwards so you are encouraged to relax fully as you sit in it. The shell is supported by a frame that has straight front legs and back legs that are slightly outspread so it can bear weight effectively and last longer.
The Ami Ami Chair has a width of 41cm, a height of 85cm and a depth of 50cm. Its seat height is 46cm. It is available as a transparent chair, in a transparent smoke grey and a glossy white.
