Kastehelmi Jar H5.7cm

The Kastehelmi Jar 5.7 cm was designed by Finnish glassware legend Oiva Toikka for the iittala label. This small jar will be a superb way to serve dinner party desserts or a gorgeous place to store the sugar for your morning coffees.

With its delicate arrangement of bubbles, the Kastehelmi Jar 5.7 cm evokes the dewdrops of the morning, and it's easy to imagine it lifting the spirits of an early riser. In fact, that uplifting mission is one of the driving motivations behind Toikka's work.

Since the 1950s, he has been creating practical glass items and decorations, often taking inspiration from natural forms. For Toikka, design is a means to soothe and delight, as much as a statement of purity and efficiency. In that way, he has been a radical force in Scandinavian design, but his success has meant that plenty of Finnish glassware designers have followed suit.

This particular bowl from iittala has dimensions of 11.6 x 5.7 cm, giving it a low profile but enough space to hold sugar, salt, butter or desserts like yoghurt and mousses. Fully dishwasher proof and equipped with a plastic lid, it is also supremely practical.
