The Nelson Ball Crisscross Bubble Suspension Lamp M was designed by George Nelson for the brand HAY.
George Nelson was one of the of the most influential 20th century designers and received several design awards. Examples of his designs are on display in MoMA and the Brooklyn Museum of Arts in the United States. Nelson's accolades include the Prix de Rome for Architecture in 1932, and the Good Design Award, 1954. The Bubble lamp collection was designed in 1952, and Nelson's inspiration for the lights came from a set of silk covered Swedish lamps which created unique, soft lighting.
The design for the Bubble lamps uses PVC to recreate the same warm illumination. This Nelson Ball Crisscross Bubble Suspension Lamp M is part of the Bubble Collection, which features a variety of spherical lamps. The crisscross patterning on the shade adds more dimension, and helps create the soft lighting effect George Nelson planned to achieve. The lamp is made from polymer, metal, and PVC, and is 39.5cm in height. It has a diameter of 48.5cm, and cable length of 183cm. The lamp has a diffuser diameter of 48.5cm and requires one E27 LED light bulb. This light is not dimmable.
