The May Day Lamp was designed by Konstantin Grcic for the manufacturer Flos. Working with a roll call of top international talent, this Italian firm has been a leading name in lighting and interior decor for well over half a century. Based in Germany, Konstantin Grcic has run his own highly successful studio since 1991. His pared-back, minimalistic aesthetic has garnered numerous accolades such as the Compasso d'Oro and the Design Miami Designer of the Year Award.
It is this approach that informs the May Day Lamp from Flos. A utility light that seamlessly matches style and functionality, it is made entirely from hard-wearing, water-resistant, injection-moulded polypropylene, making this piece suitable for use both indoors and out. Featuring an opaque conical diffuser and a brightly coloured handle, the design is simple yet eye-catchingly graphic. The handle can be used as a hook or to wind up the electrical cord, which at 4.85m is long enough for excursions to the furthest, darkest corners of the house or garden. Alternatively, for a touch of industrial chic, you can suspend the May Day Lamp in the kitchen or lounge as an extra spotlight.
