The stylish and modernistic 517 Ombra Tokyo Chair was created by Charlotte Perriand for the Cassina company.
In 1927, Cassina began to market fashionable and modernist household items. Designers such as Le Corbusier were at the helm of this movement and Charlotte Perriand worked in his studio for a decade. Her furniture designs reflect the modernist ethos, which is that form should follow function. Bentwood chairs follow this philosophy and do not require nails or upholstery.
The 517 Ombra Tokyo Chair is made of a single plane of grained oak that has been shaped and curved to form the seat, back and legs. The edges are rounded for comfort, resulting in a streamlined and beautiful piece of work that will stack with chairs of the same design.
Measuring 45 x 67 x 51 cm, the chair has a seat height of 45cm and is inclined for comfort. The 517 Ombra Tokyo Chair will fit harmoniously into dining and sitting areas, and also into the bedroom. Combined with other chairs designed by Perriand, this chair creates a modern accent in any home. The stacking function means that a group of the chairs will store conveniently.
