The story of Lumina began with a lamp that had the rich name Daphine. Tommaso Cimini designed it in 1973 and at that time did not know that two years later his company Lumina would grow from there and that its light would be seen today in the most important art and design museums around the world.
The lamp Daphine had its première at the Milan exhibition in 1974. The simplicity of the lamp placed the German visitors to the exhibition under its magical spell. The designer light became so successful that Tommaso Cimini founded Lumina Italia Ltd. Co. in 1975 in order to be able to produce more of this stunning specimen.
Tommaso Cimini started at the same time to collaborate with famous designers such as, inter alia, Walter Monici, Riccardo Blumer, Emanuele Ricci, Yaacov Kaufman and Studio DDL. There were other design highlights like the Naomi Pinza clip light , the Matrix Mono wall light dimmer and the Galileo Parete.
In 1986, Ermanno Prosperi came into the company and supported Cimini as a business partner as well as financial and logistics manager. The collaboration would last only 11 years, because in 1997 Tammaso Cimini was in a tragic plane crash. Ermanno Prosperi continued to pursue the goals of the company and made the design products from Lumina known worldwide.
Today Lumina is led by Ettore Cimini, son of Tommaso Cimini. He leads the company into the new era with enthusiasm, passion and pride.
Lumina has become a modern company, which plans through its design products to bring more Italian flair into the lives of people around the world.
According to tradition, Lumina still shows its craftsmanship in its exclusive design lights. In collaboration with Foster + Partners, for example, the dimmable LED lamp FLO was created. Their design was kept as minimal as possible. The light was marked with fine, precise details and combines quality with the latest LED technology. In our online shop you can find among others the FLO desk lamp , the FLO night table lamp and the floor lamp FLO .
