The A810 Floor Lamp was designed by Alvar Aalto for the brand Artek .
Artek was founded in 1935 in Helsinki by four idealistic creatives who set out to produce furniture using the very latest technology in partnership with modern and innovative materials, as well as natural Finnish timber. Their intention was to achieve this while still adhering to the virtues of simplicity, functionality and skilled craftsmanship. Finnish architect and artist Alvar Aalto brings his warmth and humane touch to the company's products.
The A810 Floor Lamp is supported by a brass pedestal and stand, the base and much of the brass of which has a covering of black leather. The lampshade is made of white steel that has been sprayed with a white coating and comprises two cones fashioned of concentric circles, each laid atop the other and hand-riveted together. One of the cones has its wider end facing upwards, while the other points downwards. Each of the cones has its own bulb and its own on/off pull cord. The A810 Floor Lamp stands 165cm tall and is 48cm wide. The energy-efficient halogen bulbs that this luminaire requires must be ordered separately.
