The Pépé le Moko Pepper Mill was designed by Jasper Morrison for the manufacturer Alessi.

As the author of titles like The Book of Things and Super Normal, Jasper Morrison has an ongoing love of the simple objects in life - what the writer Georges Perec called the 'infra-ordinary'. Morrison himself has described them as "better everyday performers": mini design classics that we use constantly. Working with Alessi fits with his belief in mass production of great design, so it's accessible to more of us.

The Pépé le Moko Pepper Mill is a stylish take on a favourite design idea, right down to the classic lighthouse shape. At 12cm by 7cm, its lightly textured plastic outer feels comfortable to hold, and conceals a hard-working steel mechanism within - there's a button to adjust it for coarser or finer grounds. Easy to wipe clean and simple to refill, the Pépé le Moko Pepper Mil is dependable domestic design at its best. And the name? A reference to a 1930s French gangster film starring Jean Gabin. We don't quite get the connection, but the condiment-loving cinema fan in your life will love it.
