The Merdolino Toilet Brush was designed by Stefano Giovannoni for the manufacturer Alessi.
This company has achieved huge popularity with its colourful and sometimes kitsch products for the home and kitchen. The creative mind behind many of its best selling items, Stefano Giovannoni is also an award-winning architect who has been responsible for several large-scale urban renovation projects. In addition, he has held teaching posts at universities in Florence, Milan and Genoa. During his long career he has won over 15 prizes, including multiple Design Plus awards.
Originally introduced in the early 1990s, the Merdolino Toilet Brush transforms one of the most humble items in the home from something discreet and hidden into a source of amusement and pleasure. Measuring 48cm in height and 12cm in diameter, in appearance it resembles a seedling or bean sprout growing out of a plant pot. Made from durable thermoplastic resin, the plant-like brush has a head that can be detached for washing and replacement. Above this is a circular seal which sits on top of the pot-shaped base, trapping any unpleasant odours. Held in the permanent collections of several museums around the world, this iconic design is available from AmbienteDirect in a choice of colours.
