Organic Chair

The flowing lines of the Organic Chair were created by designers Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen back in 1941, and it's a tribute to the design's iconic status that the Swiss firm Vitra still produce it today.

Eames, known worldwide for his partnership with his wife Ray, and Saarinen were noted for the rigour of their design process, and this chair was a prize-winner when they created it in 1940. Both designers were committed to the process of developing everyday objects into highly functional and beautiful pieces, with usability given as much emphasis as aesthetic appeal.

This philosophy is embodied by the stunning Organic Chair, an acknowledged design classic. The chair's voluptuous curves are crafted in hard-wearing polyurethane and covered in fabric, and it sits on contrasting straight, ash legs. The seat sits a comfortable 35cm from the floor, and the chair itself is 82.5cm high and 72.5cm wide at the edge of its flared armrests. A deceptively simple design, as comfortable as it is attractive, this minimal, contemporary chair would work beautifully in a clean and uncluttered space to set off the beauty of its line.
