The Mayor AJ 3-Seater Sofa was designed by Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen for the manufacturer &Tradition.

Located in Copenhagen, this Danish firm develops products defined by a mix of the new and old - natural materials with contemporary forms and Traditional crafts with industrial techniques. Arne Jacobsen 1902-1971 and Flemming Lassen 1902-1984 are remembered as key figures of the Danish Modernism movement of the 1930s. Jacobsen in particular is regarded as one of the most influential Scandinavian designers of the 20th century, his pieces finding their way into the public consciousness through their use in iconic movies and posters.

Originally created in 1939 as part of Jacobsen and Flemming's design for the Søllerød City Hall completed in 1942 , the Mayor AJ 3-Seater Sofa combines a vernacular Nordic feel with a sharp modern silhouette. Standing 82cm in height and 200cm in width, with a seat height of 44cm, it consists of a frame of oiled oak supporting a long, upholstered seat. The most striking feature of the piece is the tall, buttoned backrest, which wraps around forming two high wings, providing cosy protection from draughts. This version is covered in understated monochrome fabric from the luxury textile manufacturer Kvadrat.
