The S 64 N Pure Materials Cantilever Armchair Walnut was designed by Marcel Breuer for the brand Thonet.
Breuer was born in Hungary but moved to Germany aged 18 to become one of the youngest members of the emerging Bauhaus arts and crafts school, working with the legendary Walter Gropius. The Bauhaus movement broke away from conventional design to become one of the greatest influences on 20th century art. While in Berlin, Breuer developed his innovative tubular steel furniture and the German manufacturer Thonet, one of the world's earliest branded furniture makers, began producing his distinctive S 32 and S 64 chairs in the 1930s.
This S 64 N Pure Materials Cantilever Armchair Walnut is a re-release of that first chair which originally used bent cane with the tubular steel. This version features a mix of old and new with synthetic mesh and timeless oiled solid walnut on the seat frame and arms. The chair is 82cm high with a seat width of 58cm. The simple cantilever construction echoes the minimalist style developed by the Bauhaus pioneers. This chair is perfect for business use in receptions, restaurants and open areas but, as a design classic, graces any home.
