The Spider 291 Table Lamp has been created by Joe Colombo for the brand Oluce. The late Italian designer Colombo had a brief but illustrious career in product design with his bold, superb designs and their superior craftsmanship. Some of his most popular works were modular furniture, chairs, alarm clocks and trolleys.
The Spider 291 Table Lamp for Oluce is one of Colombo's award-winning designs. Winner of the Spider Compasso d'Oro award in 1967, this 1965 creation is still delighting consumers today. It has a 40cm metallic stem and an aluminium reflector that can be adjusted to different heights. The reflector has a rectangular-shaped aperture where the bulb is placed. It, too, can be pivoted in different directions. This lacquered aluminum and chromium-plated lamp is available in a choice of light or dark colour. It has a diameter of 18cm and a height of 40cm, while the base has a diameter of 18cm and the cable is 200cm long. The placing of the bulb in an opening on the reflector and its shape sets the Spider 291 Table Lamp apart and have made it a part of permanent collections in art museums in Munich, Philadelphia and Düsseldorf.
