The Ultima Thule Glass Vase 82x97mm has been created by Tapio Wirkkala for the brand iittala. Its inspiration came from a collection of glasses by the same designer. When laid out together on a table, the vase and glasses create a striking display.
The Ultima Thule Glass Vase 82x97mm is handcrafted. It is made of mouthblown glass. The fact that the glass is clear allows the pattern to really stand out. The pattern replicates ice melting and dripping down in rivulets in Lapland which is located in the Arctic Circle. The dripping water is represented by straight lines running from the top of the vase downwards. The chunks of ice that are melting are represented by short lines that are across and all around the vase. They also add texture. The vase has a round opening at the top that is rimmed. It then gradually broadens out which gives it elegant curves. It has a line in the middle and from here, it extends downwards to a round base. Little studs that are also made of clear glass lift the vase off a table slightly while adding a subtle decorative touch.
The Ultima Thule Glass Vase 82x97mm has a height of 9.7cm and a diameter of 8.2cm. To avoid damaging it, washing by hand is recommended.
