This HEY-SIGN Seat Mat Square With Foam Filling from HEY-SIGN was created by Bernadette Ehmanns and is a deceptively simple, beautifully made seating accessory.

For those who aren't familiar with their work, HEY-SIGN is a label set up by Ehmanns and Mathias Hey, which specialises in creating household items using high-quality wool and felt in particular . In the process, they seek to keep old craft traditions alive, utilising hand-weaving techniques to create fabrics that have gorgeous textures and impressive strength. It's an approach that works, as proven by the Interior Innovation and German Design Awards presented to the label in recent years.

The HEY-SIGN Seat Mat Square With Foam Filling is a great example of how they work. On the surface, it's an ordinary felt seat mat that measures either 35cm or 40cm squared.

The secret to the mat lies in is production. The felt used is densely woven, creating a strong, almost waterproof coating, that feels luxurious to the touch. The flip-side of the mat is a slip-resistant surface that attaches naturally to seats. It represents a thoughtful example of how craft and industry can be fused, resulting in practical everyday products.
