Stefano Giovannoni was born in La Spezia, Italy in 1954. He graduated in architecture in Florence in 1978. From 1979 he taught there, as well as at the Domus Academy in Milan and the Università del Progetto in Reggio Emilia. Currently he lives and works in Milan.

Stefano Giovannoni is working as an industrial designer, interior decorator, and architect, specializing in plastic products and designing several worldwide famous bestsellers.
In the 1980s Stefano Giovannoni and Guido Venturini founded the King-Kong studio.

His clients are companies like Alessi, Cappellini, Flos, Kankyo, Magis, Lavazza, Pulsar, Saab, Seiko, Siemens.

Giovannoni created very successful commercial products such as, for Alessi, the "Girotondo" and "Mami" series, "Il Bagno Alessi", and the "Bombo" series for Magis.
In 1991 he designed the Italian Pavillon at the exhibition "Les Capitales Europeennes du nouveau design" at the Centre George's Pompidou.

Giovannoni won numerous prizes, amongst others the "Shincenchiku Residential Design Competition" award, the "Concorso per una piazza a Santa Croce sull' Arno" award (both in 1980), the "Concorso per la ristrutturazione del centro storico di Castel di Sangro" award together with A. Branzi and R. Buti (in 1989).
Some of his projects have received the "Design Plus" award at the Frankfurt Fair - Ambiente 1994 and 1996, the "Forum Design Hannover" award in 1999, the "ISH" 2003 award.

Stefano Giovannoni's works are part of the permanent archive of Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris and of the Museum of Modern Art collection, New York.
