The Dry Serving Spoon was created by Achille Castiglioni for the Italian company Alessi. Intended to be used with other items in the Dry collection, it is a beautifully proportioned piece of cutlery design.
Castiglioni, who died in 2002, was a major 20th century Italian product designer, covering everything from watches to stereo systems and lamps. He had the ability to work on large scale architectural projects, but was also a master of crafting everyday items like this Dry Serving Spoon, in which little touches and the skillful selection of materials makes all the difference.
The spoon is made from polished stainless steel, giving it resistance to rust and a fresh, bright look. Its handle slightly tapers towards the end, while the head of the spoon has been meticulously designed, with graceful proportions.
Measuring 24cm in length, the Dry Serving Spoon is intended to be used to serve guests. The handle is long enough to reach into hot dishes without risking discomfort -- a neat practical touch that will help regular hosts and hostesses. It has also been designed to combine with other elements in Alessi's Dry collection, including forks, dining spoons, knives and tongs.
