The year was 1954 when Aurelio Zanotta founded the design company Zanotta in Nova Milanese, Italy. In the beginning Zanotta mainly produced sofas and armchairs. In the year 1960 the company first created furniture that were seen as revolutionary in shape and technology and thus achieved international renown.
The first Zanotta collection was launched in the year 1989 and was called “Zanotta Edizioni”. All design objects from this series are mostly made by hand and cater to a high artistic demand. The furniture from the Zanotta Edizioni collection were supposed to be loved by their owners, as if they were precious paintings or elegant sculptures. And in the end Zanotta achieved exactly that with its exquisite Zanotta Edizioni furniture collection.
In the meantime the company offers a wide range of designer products and sells its collection in over 60 countries. For the manufacturing process of Zanotta design objects the company uses different manufacturing technologies. This makes among other things the progressive use of various materials possible, like wood, leather, marble, metal, plastic, and glass.
Zanotta stands for furniture collections in a typical Italian design. Internationally renowned architects and designers closely work together with the company Zanotta. Among them are Achille Castiglioni, Gae Aulenti, Marco Zanuso, Ettore Sottsass, Joe Colombo, Alessandro Mendini, and Ross Lovegrove.
Lots of the furniture by Zanotta designers are so exceptional that they find their way into countless books and great design museums worldwide. Some of them are, for example, the Metropolitan Museum, the Centre George Pompidou, the Design Museum in London, the Vitra Design Museum in Weil on the Rhine, and the Arts and Crafts Museum in Berlin, Germany. Additionally, the company Zanotta won several awards for their interesting furniture designs, like the Good Design Award, the Elle Decoration Design Award, and the Prize BIO 9 Ljubljana.
