It was the year 1969 when fellow students Oskar Weishäupl and Robert (“Bob”) Arnold rented a barrack in Stephanskirchen near Rosenheim, Germany, to manufacture table lamps in. In December 1970 their first collection was done and available for purchase. Their story of success took its course – albeit in a different direction.
For when Oskar Weishäupl discovered a parasol on an Italian vegetable market that was only made of wood and canvas, his interest and inventive talent were awakened: He sketched a model for a sun umbrella that soon became a bestseller – especially among monied clientele. While Bob was rather skeptic in the beginning, now he was fon fire and convinced Oskar to experiment with designs for garden chairs. None of the models met his high demands until one day an acquaintance brought two old chairs for repair – exactly the type of chair Oskar Weishäupl had been dreaming about!
He had the frame shaped by an iron founder and hit the bull's eye with his chair – today it is a popular classic among garden chairs.
