The Solo Shelf Module was designed by Dirk Frömchen for the brand Tojo.
Frömchen is a German carpenter who fulfilled his childhood dream of working with wood. He remains committed to the specialist workmanship of his craft, but believes in adding an element of fun to his designs. The German company Tojo was founded in 2000, with the aim of working with young designers to manufacture timeless furniture that ensures functionality coupled with affordability. The company now has numerous award-winning products in its range.
The Solo Shelf Module is an H-shaped element, with the cross-bar of the "H" protruding on either side. The module can be used as a single small shelf, secured to a wall. It is designed, however, to be coupled with additional modules to form free-standing shelving units. The compartments of the system are square, but the shape of the shelving unit can be customised according to living or office space needs. Twelve modules will yield a rectangular unit measuring 140cm wide, 210cm high and 35cm deep. Six modules joined together will build a rectangular unit measuring 140cm wide, 105cm high and 35cm deep. The units are crafted from white-coated medium-density fibreboard.
