The Air Sideboard was designed by Mathieu Gustafsson for the brand Design House Stockholm.

Rather than selecting a designer, Design House Stockholm invites young designers to submit their ideas. These bring something new to furniture collections while representing the very best of Scandinavian design. Alongside French and Swedish influences, Mathieu Gustafsson uses his background in furniture design, graphic design and cabinetmaking to inform his work. He identifies a need and brings a new angle to it.

The Air Sideboard definitely brings a new angle to storage furniture. The use of woven rattan combines contemporary style with 1950's retro. It is reminiscent of the woven bistro furniture Gustafsson remembers from his childhood. This well-crafted piece of furniture takes centre stage in living and dining rooms and with its airy transparency gives a glimpse of what is concealed inside. Hidden interior lighting can be added to amplify this effect while access holes at the rear make the sideboard effective for the storage of electrical and media devices. The woven cane provides ventilation, a practical point when linen or electric appliances are stored inside. The Air Sideboard is manufactured from birch, cane and MDF and measures 120 x 81 x 40 cm.
