The Wooden Doll Cat was created by Alexander Girard for the leading design label Vitra.
Launched in Switzerland in the late 1950s, Vitra produces furniture and accessories for the home and public spaces - pieces that always successfully combine a strong aesthetic appeal with function. As well as commissioning contemporary designers, the label also reworks design icons of the 20th century. In creating pieces for his own Santa Fe home, Alexander Girard took inspiration from the folk art of Asia, Europe and Latin America. His award-winning work is widely displayed in museum collections around the globe.
The Wooden Doll Cat is part of a series of wooden toys designed by Girard. Each wooden toy is hand finished and hand painted, making it a truly unique collectable which is presented in an attractive wooden box. Crafted from solid fir, each Wooden Doll Cat is formed from three stackable blocks, giving it a playful as well as aesthetic appeal. The wooden cat is available in a choice of sizes: 48 x 17.1 x 3.6 cm and 11 x 39.3 x 8.6 cm.
