The S 661 Chair has been created by Günter Eberle for the brand Thonet. During his time at Thonet, the late German industrial designer Eberle designed the chair and won a silver medal for it at the 1954 Milan Triennale Design Exhibition. The chair also won him the 1954 iF Product Design Award.
The S 661 Chair is being relaunched in different versions. It remains iconic because of details like the unified seat and backrest that give it a sleek look and the unexampled cutout in the middle. The shell is made of moulded plywood that can be bent into the desired shape. The shell sits on a frame made of steel that is finished with chrome plating or powder-coating. The metallic frame contrasts smartly with the wood grain that is visible. The legs that have gliders underneath are tubular and they are angled outwards which makes the chair more stable and durable.
The S 661 Chair has a width of 52cm, a height of 82cm and a depth of 54cm. It has a seat height of 46cm. It is available in oak, olive green, natural beech and walnut. With its timeless, elegant style, it is ideal for use both in homes and commercial spaces like offices and restaurants.
