The Aspide Table Lamp has been created by Gianfranco Frattini for the brand Gubi. Initially developed in 1970, it isn't immediately clear that is a lamp. It can pass for a sleek piece of art.
The Aspide Table Lamp gets its name from the word asp which refers to a snake-like or reptilian form. This is represented in the shape of the body with its shiny chrome-plated finish. The swirling light has a base that sits on a table while the rest of the body rises up so the end that houses the light source is raised. It casts light downwards from the underside where the light source is hidden. The body is made of curved iron tubes that are attached to an engineered steel shaft. It is built such that the neck and head can seamlessly rotate up to 350º with an inbuilt stop point. Adjustability makes the lamp suitable for both task and accent lighting. The overall look combines glamour and playfulness which is rare to find so well-balanced in the same piece.
The Aspide Table Lamp has a width of 62cm and a height of 43cm. Its cable has a length of 210cm. It is not dimmable. It works with an E14 socket and the bulb has to be purchased separately.
