The S 64 N Cantilever Armchair was designed by Marcel Breuer for Thonet.
Thonet was established in 19th-century Germany by a master carpenter of the same name. The company saw global success when its manufacturing processes transitioned from handcrafting to industrialisation. In the early 20th-century, the label was a pioneer in the creation of tubular steel furniture. This movement was led by award-winning designer and architect, Marcel Breuer. His inspiration for tubular steel furniture came from the design of bicycle handlebars.
The S 64 N Cantilever Armchair is part of the label's tubular steel range based on the original designs of Marcel Breuer from 1928. The cantilever shape of the chair provides both aesthetic appeal and comfort while the blend of chrome-coloured tubular steel and beech stained in a choice of shades provides a pleasing visual contrast of materials. This is enhanced by the black plastic mesh of the seat and backrest. The elegant outline of the chair fits just as well into conference rooms and offices as it does into restaurants and domestic dining rooms. The S 64 N Cantilever Armchair measures 58 x 82 x 62 cm with a seat height of 46cm.
