The Eames Wooden Elephant was created by Charles and Ray Eames and is now produced by the furniture design label Vitra.

Two legends of American culture, Charles and Ray Eames, collaborated on everything from architecture to books and films, but their names are synonymous with the golden era of US interior design. The Eames Wooden Elephant shows the couple's playful but dedicated approach at its best. Created as a one-off prototype in the 1940s, with Charles's daughter Lucia in mind, this wooden ornament or toy has been brought back to life over 60 years later.

The Eames Wooden Elephant was, literally, a 'masterpiece': it was designed to demonstrate the potential of complex plywood moulding, the same technique used in the Eames's iconic lounge chair. Originally exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Eames Elephant is now ready to be enjoyed by the whole family within the home. At 78.5 x 41 x 41.5 cm, it's the perfect size to display above floor height on a shelf or table, but it would also be happy roaming the open-plan spaces of your home, at which point you might consider starting a small herd...
