The Juuyo Suspension Lamp has been created by Lorenza Bozzoli for Moooi.
Bozzoli was born in Milan and studied art at Brera Academy. After graduating, she worked as a freelance fashion designer for a number of leading labels, but she later developed a passion for industrial design. Her work has been shown in many exhibitions across the globe.
Her beautiful Juuyo Suspension Lamp is heavily influenced by her love of eastern and, in particular, Japanese culture. This unusual bowl-shaped light, in white glazed ceramic, is based on the wigs worn by the famous Geisha, while the name Juuyo comes from the earlier female entertainers who lived in the 17th century.
Bozzoli uses the symbolism of Japanese art in the decorative screens. One design depicts the brocade koi carp which represents courage and the desire to achieve great things. In the second design, the peach blossom protects from evil forces and represents renewal, rejuvenation and beauty.
These elegant pendant lamps have a diameter of 24cm and are pieces of artwork that can enliven any space. Their crisp contemporary lines embrace an ancient culture and can be used individually or in groups to create a stunning lighting display.
