The EA 217 Soft Pad Chair Black Base was created by Ray and Charles Eames for The Vitra label. Featuring extra padding compared to most Eames models, it retains the couple's unique 1950s aesthetic, and will look the part in any home office.

The Eames' were an American couple with a huge impact on modern design. Their chairs have become a symbol of post-war American business, and their armchairs are a constant feature of Hollywood classics and period TV shows like 'Mad Men'. Mixing comfort, build quality, and innovation in equal measure, chairs like the EA 217 Soft Pad Chair Black Base won the couple a stream of awards, and it's hard to imagine modern design without them.

This product is one of the Eames' professional designs. Coming in classic executive chair format, it has an adjustable swivel base and a leather cover, giving it a premium appearance. Mounted on four durable castors, the chair has a lightweight aluminium frame, and has been padded slightly more than most Vitra chairs, making it extra comfortable. Each one measures 81.5 x 57 x 58 cm, and has a seat height of 38.5cm, although this can be changed to suit each individual user.
