Butterfly Chair

The Butterfly Chair has been created by Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan & Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy for the brand Knoll International. Butterfly was first introduced in 1938, and it was updated and resurrected by Knoll on its 80th birthday. The reason for the re-introduction is simple: Butterfly is a design classic, with gorgeous curves, a high degree of comfort and an undeniable sense of fun.

The seat of the Butterfly Chair immediately draws attention. Made from thermoformed felt, it hangs from the slender frame, sagging gently at the centre. This seat element has been laser cut to a precise shape, recreating the original form perfectly. It connects seamlessly with the frame in a balanced combination that feels luxurious and stable, inviting sitters to relax and de-stress.

The frame of the Butterfly Chair is made from black powder-coated steel and it zig-zags in an original shape which works brilliantly with the curved seat. It meets the floor at four points, stabilising the design during long sitting periods. The chair measures 82cm wide and 76cm deep, while it has a height of 90cm and a seat height of 32cm. The felt seat is available in various colours including both dark grey and anthracite black.
