The striking Coffee Mug Graph was designed by Alexander Girard for the Swiss label Vitra.
This label was launched in the 1950s with a view to change the design industry. Vitra quickly gained fame for its striking furniture and accessories for the home and office, and the brand collaborates with contemporary designers from all over the globe while revisiting some style classics of the 1900s. Girad is famous for his graphic and textile designs which sported a whimsical quality that was unlike anything else during the years of post-war austerity. His work has won many accolades and been featured in exhibitions all over the world including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Part of his home and restaurant design work, Girard made a whole set of accessories such as napkins, menu cards, tableware and even matchboxes. These items feature the designer's characteristic graphic designs such as the pattern on the Coffee Mug Graph, which appears contemporary despite the fact that the mug was first made in the mid-20th century. This mug features black lines on white food grade porcelain. The classy piece has standard measurements of 9.5cm in height and 7.5cm in diameter. It has a capacity of 0.3L.
