Product description

The Cosmos 2501 LED Suspension lamp was designed by the trio Lievore, Altherr, Molina for the manufacturer Vibia.

The partnership between Alberto Lievore, Jeannette Altherr and Manel Molina lasted almost a quarter of a century, earned a host of industry awards and produced some of Spain's most memorable interior design creations. A holistic approach - which encompassed architecture, product design and packaging - was based on their shared appreciation of pure, naturally inspired forms. Inspiration for lighting doesn't get much more fundamental than the perfect disc, but the trio managed to take the idea and produce something beautifully original.

A tiny LED is recessed into the underside of these synthetic discs to cast a direct downward light. Despite being only 4cm in thickness, they create an amazing illusion of spherical shape, especially in lower light. In natural daylight, the Cosmos 2501 LED Suspension lamp comes into its own as a piece of hanging sculpture; with a suspension height of up to 2m, there's plenty of scope to group and arrange them in ways that play on their planetary shapes, colours and sizes. Amazing when suspended over a central table, the lamp also works well silhouetted against a wall.
