The Stone Suspension Lamp from British designer Tom Dixon is a wonderful example of Dixon's artistry and creativity. Designed to hang from the ceiling, this lamp actually includes carved marble elements, something you'll rarely find in lights of this kind.
Few designers would conceive of a marble-clad suspension lamp, but Dixon is different. He has built his formidable reputation as an outsider and is famous for being self taught. Works like the Stone Suspension Lamp show off his offbeat perspective, taking risks with materials and form to great effect.
The lamp itself is formed from two marble-clad rings. The marble has been processed down to a translucent "skin", allowing just enough light to escape without sacrificing its unique grain and aesthetic quality. The bulb of the lamp is supported by a brass cover, offsetting the marble elements and adding brilliance to the light that the lamp produces.
The largest ring of the lamp measures 18cm across, and the unit has a height of 10.6cm, making it a compact model. Coming with a 250cm long cable, it can be hung almost anywhere in the home and would be a sublime addition to hallways or living rooms.
