Product description
The MR 517/1 Side Table was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the brand Thonet.
Van der Rohe was one of the most important architects and product designers in history. Alongside the Bauhaus Group, he worked on projects as grand as the iconic Seagram Building in New York, and as modest as the MR 517/1 Side Table. In all instances, he matched technical innovation with artistic brilliance - features that also tend to mark out the work of the German-Austrian label Thonet.
The MR series was designed in 1927 for an experimental modernist home. Since then, the tubular steel construction and transparent glass tabletop have become common features of business and domestic tables - but the execution has never been surpassed. Van der Rohe's 517/1 entry in the series is a rounded glass side table with a secondary shelf. The table measures 46cm tall and 50cm in diameter, and features a mix of toned glass and stainless steel tubing. Accomplished and beautiful, the MR 517/1 Side Table is a design that will never lose its ability to impress. Consummately crafted and created by a modern master, it looks flawlessly pure yet totally functional.
