B 10/1 Coffee Table

The B 10/1 Coffee Table was designed by Marcel Breuer for the brand Thonet.

Originally a traditional carpentry business, Thonet rose to success in the 20th-century when it turned from hand-production to industrial manufacture. The label was also a pioneer in the use of tubular steel for furniture and at one stage was producing the majority of the world's tubular steel furniture. Part of this innovation was led by Marcel Breuer. Much of his design work involved tubular steel and he claimed his inspiration for this came from the design and shape of bicycle handlebars.

The B 10/1 Coffee Table is decorative, practical and strikingly eye-catching in its unusual length and depth. With its tubular frame, it has a pared-back industrial look which was still very innovative when Breuer designed it in the early 20th century. The coffee table features a continuous sweep of chrome-plated steel that forms the frame and the supports. The two shelves are made of MDF and are available in a choice of a lacquered ash or stained beech finish. The dimensions of the B10/1 Coffee Table are 130 x 50 x 39 cm.
