The Overlap Outdoor Bench was designed by Taf Architects for the manufacturer Skagerak.
Founded in Finland in 1976, Skagerak is known for its luxury indoor and outdoor furniture. Regularly shortlisted for international prizes, it has won multiple Red Dot awards as well as a multitude of other accolades. Run by Mattias Stahlbom and Gabriella Gustafson, Taf Architects is a studio based in Stockholm with an aesthetic that draws on classic Scandinavian values, placing an emphasis on quality natural materials and simple, timeless forms.
Roomy enough to seat five, the Overlap Outdoor Bench is 43 cm in height, 36 cm in width and 200 cm in length. The design could hardly be more straightforward and rustic, but an element of the industrial is introduced with its painted steel legs and frame. These are in marked contrast to the bench itself, which consists of two untreated planks of western red cedar that will weather to an attractive natural patina after a period outdoors. Suitable for homes, parks or playgrounds, the Overlap Outdoor Bench can be teamed with a similarly rustic table to create a pleasant picnic area, or it can be used by itself as a standalone garden seat.
