The AJ Wall Lamp was designed by Arne Jacobsen for the Danish label Louis Poulsen and is an accomplished piece of Scandinavian design.
Arne Jacobsen was one of the key Danish furniture designers of the post-war era, creating famous designs like the Egg Chair. His work regularly attracted major awards, including ID-Prizes from the Danish Society of Industrial Design and the Grand Prix at the Milan Trienniale in 1957. However, while his chairs are famous, Jacobsen was also a skillful lighting designer as is demonstrated by the AJ Wall Lamp.
First released in 1960, the lamp was specifically commissioned to furnish the prestigious SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Jacobsen sought to create a lamp that would complement the hotel's traditional furnishings but also add a forward-thinking modernist element at the same time. The result was the AJ Wall Lamp, which will work just as well in rustic interiors as contemporary urban lofts.
The lamp is made from pure steel, and projects 33.5 cm from the wall. It has a height of 18cm, and the diffuser has a diameter of 9 cm, creating a focused beam of light with very little glare - the perfect way to illuminate reading desks and kitchens alike.
