The Mantis BS5 Wall Lamp was designed by Bernard Schottlander for the brand DCW.
The simple style and industrial approach that is apparent in the Mantis BS5 Wall Lamp is typical of Bernard Schottlander's work. Based in Britain until his death in 1999, the German-born designer was a masterful metalworker who crafted numerous models marketed by the French label DCW.
In this case, Schottlander created a hood-like aluminium shade with undulating edges, giving the diffuser an exotic appearance. Created soon after the Second World War, the Mantis BS5 has a streamlined metallic construction and remains a timeless design that will enhance almost any environment. The BS5 has a classic wall lamp style, attaching easily to most interior walls via a small but solid rounded metal fixture. The lamp extends for 45cm from the wall, while the product as a whole measure 20.5cm from top to bottom. This makes it relatively compact, and a series of these lamps would be ideal for illuminating corridors and landings. Featuring energy efficient LED bulbs and possessing a rugged, stable design, it offers a pleasing blend of beauty and solidity.
