The Eames Elephant S was created by brothers Charles and Ray Eames for the Vitra label back in 1945.
In the 40s, this was a display of the technical virtuosity of the American design duo: the Eames couple. Now, it is a timeless ornament which evokes a golden age of furniture design. The Eames were responsible for shifting the horizons of furniture creators, experimenting with plywood, plastics and leather to create the iconic Mad Men-style 1950s aesthetic.
The Eames Elephant S shows the playful side of the Eames couple. In the mid-1940s, the Eames sought to show off new plywood sculpting techniques and created a variety of showpieces - including the Eames Elephant S. And it's easy to see the kind of impression they made. In this case, the Eames Elephant S is an updated version of the designers' elephant sculpture. Unlike the original, this recreation has been formed from plastic, making it more durable. The Eames Elephant S measures 215 x 39 cm and stands 20cm tall. And it's not just an ornament: being large enough for children to sit on, it's also a fun addition to designer playrooms.
