The Rex Plastic Rug 70x160cm was designed by Lina Rickardsson for the manufacturer pappelina.
What began over two decades ago as a craft and design experiment in the potential of synthetic materials has become a great success story of Scandinavian design. Rickardsson founded her company in 1998 after being inspired to explore new ways of weaving plastics in an old textile mill in her native Sweden. She found that the materials lent themselves to the bold but versatile designs she wanted to create.
Plastic rugs were a household favourite when Rickardsson was growing up, and she set out to get them back on trend. The Rex Plastic Rug 70x160cm is a stylish creation that brings a retro-inflected utility design right up to date. It is also the ultimate piece of versatile and durable home furnishing. Quick to dry, the rug is a practical choice for the lawn, terrace, patio or even by the pool. A tough-wearing weave makes it ideal for childrens' playrooms too, where the rough and tumble of the day is easily wiped clean with a damp cloth. Rickardsson insists that these rugs are produced without harmful chemicals or textile treatments, meaning they're environmentally friendly.
