The Jam Bookcase 138x55x38cm was designed by Rudolph Schelling Webermann for the manufacturer Normann Copenhagen.
A Danish design label, Normann Copenhagen was launched in 1999 by Jan Andersen and Poul Madsen and has become known for the way it gives an extraordinary twist to conventional objects. Its collections cover furniture, home accessories, textiles and lighting. Rudolph Schelling Webermann is a design trio that came together after studying art at university. Their work challenges materials and techniques to create pieces that are both functional and eye-catching. Among their prestigious prizes are the Red Dot Design and Good Design awards.
The Jam Bookcase 138x55x38cm is an elegantly clever piece composed of just simple three elements. It is built around a polypropylene wedge that holds the other two components together without having to use tools or screws. Once the oak poles and oak-veneered chipboard shelves are fixed to the wedges, gravity and friction hold them firmly in place. Different coloured wedges can be purchased separately. With its light, airy feel and gently rounded edges, the bookcase works well against a wall or centrally placed as a room divider. This 6-pole Jam Bookcase 138x55x38cm complements a larger eight-pole version.
