Officina Bench

The Officina Bench was created by the design duo of brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for the Italian design label Magis.

Magis was launched by Eugenio Perazza in 1976 with the aim of producing furniture and accessories that blended high function and visual appeal with ethical production methods. Paris-based Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec bring their interest in industrial design and materials to their furniture. The duo has won many prestigious prizes including the German Design Award.

For the frame and legs of the Officina Bench, the Bouroullecs have used ancient iron forging techniques which involve hammering a metal alloy on an anvil, shaping it while it is hot and then letting it cool. This process means that every piece is slightly different, giving every item a unique aesthetic value. In contrast to the rustic nature of the frame and legs, the seat and back of the bench are crafted from highly-polished beech-effect plywood worked into organically curved shapes. The dimensions of the Officina Bench are 125 x 82 x 57 cm, and it complements other benches as well as chairs, stools and tables in the same range.
