The Metropoli D20/17V Lamp was designed by the team of Alberto Meda, Paolo Rizzatto and Riccardo Sarfatti for the Italian design house Luceplan and it's a beautiful example of modern lighting design. In this case, Meda, Rizzatto and Sarfatti have reduced wall lamps to their essence. He has abandoned needless decorative features and come up with a single colour disc-shaped design that is all about function. By doing so, he has also created a classic piece of minimalist design.
The Metropoli collection was conceived in 1992 and revolved around simplicity. This lamp is a great case in point. It has a simple round diffuser made from prismatic glass and an aluminium casing. Both central elements have been integrated seamlessly, creating a flawless result.
This Luceplan lamp sits just 8cm from the ceiling or wall, so it can be placed unobtrusively into any room. However, when the E14 40W halogen lamp is turned on, it will bathe any room in light. When it comes time to replace the bulbs, the "watch-case" diffuser is easy to open and close. The lamp also uses highly efficient bulbs, making the Metropoli D20/17V Lamp cheap to use and environmentally friendly.
