The Limited Edition Wassily™ Easy Chair was designed by Marcel Breuer for the Knoll International brand.
A master carpenter at the Bauhaus school of design, Breuer pioneered the design and manufacture of tubular steel furniture. Today, the Knoll International company owns the rights to his designs and they market the Wassily chair, which has become a style icon.
The frame of the Limited Edition Wassily™ Easy Chair is made entirely of steel tubing. Black, cowhide slings form the backrest, armrests and seating of the chair. The seat is angled for comfort and for visual interest. Breuer's friend, the artist Wassily Kandinsky, admired the chair so much that Breuer named it after him. This Limited Edition Wassily™ Easy Chair is one of a series of 500 chairs that have been manufactured to mark the forthcoming hundredth anniversary of the Bauhaus school of design. Each chair has a serial number and stamp, and a certificate of authenticity is provided. The chair measures 79 x 73 cm, and has a comfortable depth of 69cm, a seat height of 42cm and an armrest height of 58.5cm. The chair rests on plastic gliders so that it will not damage floors.
