The extremely striking Wo bist du Edison,...? (German for "Where are you Edison,...?") was created by Ingo Maurer by hand in 1997. Wo bist du Edison,...? is the big brother and predecessor of the equally unique Ingo Maurer lamp Eddie's Son from the year 2005.
A holographic emulsion is applied to each glass cylinder and with the help of a laser and a complicated chemical developing process a microscopically fine interference relief emerges from the emulsion layer. This way, Ingo Maurer creates a brilliant one-of-a-kind with each model, which creates the impression of a virtual light bulb in interaction (absorption and reflection) with the illuminant - an astonishing effect that will not fail to have an amazing effect.
When looking closely the observer may answer the question "Where are you Edison...?" himself. Thomas Alva Edison's silhouette, the inventor of the light bulb, can be found on the illuminant's socket.
